FASHION DICTUM

Celebration of birth month continues with a vengeance.

Mom said she wanted to give me something I'd been wanting or needing for my birthday, and asked if I would like to choose. I knew just the thing- something I'd been hankering over for some time but just couldn't bring myself to spring for. I opted for both want- and need in the form of this play pretty by Candace Ang. I love her jewelry. This is laser-cut and -etched black lucite. Sorry, but it was hard to get a really clear picture of it while wearing it(my arms being under-long and all), and I thought if I photographed it on a flat surface you wouldn't get an idea of the scale, etc. There was also a sinuous snake necklace I really wanted, but I didn't want to appear too greedy. The snake was fabuloussssssss, but this is the one I liked best.

Anyhoo, it's sort of bohemian/goth/pirate or somesuch. Mebbe I need to institute International Festoon Like A Pirate Day, ya think? Love the skeleton and raven, and not just because it's October. The text-- I'm guessing this was from a woodcut or something-- is it latin Putre factio or Italian (putre? faccio?) I guess it is Halloweeny after all. I likes it. High stinking fashion, or some such.

Thanks for the prezzie, Mom. It's fabulous and I love it!

Did ya see the little fish to the left? Maybe it's a piranha! I love this necklace, it's very evocative.

christina - you know the dentist's little niece in finding nemo? I quote her all the time "I want a piranha!" now I have one, mebbe!

Or it's a coelacanth. Did you notice the skeleton is holding someone's hand?

It puts me in mind a wee bit of a wooodcut that my parents used to have having in the livingroom, of Death riding a horse over a pile of corpses. Very uplifting stuff!

I was wondering what that was!

Very cool as my daughter would say. I bet she'd love one of these. Her 29th birthday is coming up.

Thanks for a great idea for one of her presents. She really loves stuff like this.

Do you think Candace Ang could crank out some 1911 grips with that skelton and raven on them?

There's a raven on my clan's crest. Heap big medicine. Your mother really loves you.
