It's 1 am and I just got home from seeing the Knitters at the Sons of Hermann Hall in Dallas. This band is comprised of members of the LA punk band X, the Blasters, and guitar phenom Dave Alvin.

I'm exhuasted, and maybe I'll write more on this tomorrow, but for now I'll say rockabilly bassist Johnny Ray Bartel was superb, DJ Bonebrake was skiffle-tastic and just what one would hope for on drums, Exene Cervenka and John Doe were sheer delight on vocals, and Dave Alvin wrought something from the guitar that sounded like a thousand miles of clear blue sky.

Great show. So glad I dragged my tired ass out to see them, and I can't wait to see them again. *must resist urge to drive to Houston/Austin over the next few days, but I'll think wistfully of traveling to see them again*

Here's the Knitters playing Burning House of Love on the Letterman show a couple years ago.

You're right, James, and thanks for the comment with this link to Dave Alvin's superb Dry River which they performed last night, only John sang it instead of Dave. Great link James - thanks again!

1am on a "school" night, you are so rock 'n' roll Phlegmmy!

Sounds like it was more than worth your time having caught them on the vid.

Dave Alvin is not just a great guitar player, he's also one hell of a songwriter.

Ahhh...your hours make me tired, just reading about 'em, Phlegmmy!

But! MORE power to ya!! If I lived in something resembling civilization, I might keep similar hours. On balance, it's a great good thing I'm in the sticks...

The stuff one finds out when not looking...

Good to hear that not all the bands in the world have stopped touring to do their Christmas shopping. Exhaustion is par for the course this time of year, my dear.

You're very welcome, O Phlegm. I'm always happy to point someone toward more good music.
