This one's for Mushy.

I remember this public service announcement from Memphis television in the 70s. The cautionary narrative concludes with "there ain't no lower class than Tennessee Trash." I have a cousin in Arkansas who might be able to unseat TT in the filth stakes. I'm just sayin'.

SO - who's all lathered up about this Harry Potter movie thingie? And I'm not naming names, but her initials may be detail medic or some such. Yeah, I'll prolly go see it today or tomorrow, but I'm drawing the line at going to the 12:01 showing, even if the film does have Gary Oldman and David Thewlis.

Now, I'll go to the midnight movie to see Bladerunner or any of several Kubrick films, but, jeez - it's a school night.

I wonder if they are making some kind of statement by having him drive a corvair in the video.

I was supposed to go see harry potter at midnight with my nephew but I'm kind of glad the plans fell through.

Oh no you dint just call me out like dat!

*sniff*. I tried to get into the 12:01 showing and it was sold out... I'm not going until thursday night.

For the records, I will not be in line at midnight to buy the last book next week. I'm working. My friend is doing it for me and we're meeting for breakfast when I get off of work...

hammer - The Corvair? Perzackley.

You lucked out, eh? I mean, I want to see the movie and I probably will before the weekend - heck! Maybe even this afternoon, but I'm not THAT curious.

detail medic - You loved it. I know you DID!

Yeah, I may beat you to it, if you're not going till tomorrow night. I'll try not to spoil it for you. I'm just glad it has Gary Oldman in it. I hopes they don't kill him! Oh, you're not taking work off to buy the booK? At least you're not obsessed! *wink*

Harry who? Oh, yeah, the kid in all the books I bought my grand kids several years ago. We did enjoy the movies, though. And Oldman will be a hoot no matter his character. Nobody does crazy or mean better than Oldman. But I'll wait for it to show up on HBO/Shotime etc in Hi Def. And you should see Bladerunner on a Hi Def big 'un. And was Deckard a replicant? Which do you prefer, the original or the director's cut? I like the director's cut because it has no narration.

myron - yeah, that guy, Harold something. Yeah, Oldman is amazing. Love him in everything - he's phenomenal.

I've seen Bladrunner at movie housese every chance I've gotten. I'm still mulling over which I prefer. I've never admitted this puclicly, but I sort of do think Deckard was a replicant. I never thought so until I took a sci-fi writing class in college and we read DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP. I was on the fence for a long time, but over time, I've decided I do think he was a replicant. I think it's an absolutely brilliant story, and magnificently realized on film.

Bladerunner is one of my all time favorite movies. Philip K Dick wrote some very thought-provoking stuff...
My boss took the day off today to catch the new Harry Potter movie. I read the books, but haven't really kept up on the movies...

Have Bladerunner on DVD. Love it. And I remember the crying indian commercials, but the first "Don't Mess With Texas commercials were cool as hell. Too Tall Jones and... what the hell was his name? Loved it. Randy White? This one reminds me of the Jerry Jeff Walker one.

Wow that's a pretty brutal ad. Although I guess it would have pissed off more people if it was made in, say ... Texas.

I'm chuffed for all the Potterisms, but I usually wait a couple of weeks for the insanity to die down.

Um, I preordered the last book. I guess I'm hooked.

Though, Dick and I probably will go see the movie, but not until it's out for a couple of weeks.

BTW, I never told you, I loved your Mr. Garrison comment. You were so spot on with that one.

Thanks!

Around here he would have been driving a Camaro or Firebird with duct tape on it somewhere!

It was a state-wide campaign...remember it well.

kevin - me too - Bladerunner is absolutely gorgeous

fathairybastard - the crying indian commercial is classic

barbara - well, we had/have the "Don't Mess with Texas" anti-litter campaign.
Seeing the Potter flick the first day of release, I was surprised the theater wasn't more packed.

kelly - yeah, I almost felt bad for making that observation - I was wondering if that guy is a social outcast because he's like Mr. Garrison, or if he's a Mr. Garrison because he's a social outcast. I think this is a chicken-or-the-egg question

mushy - You're welcome! I actually thought it was a fun campaign, better than some slicked-up Hollywood version
