It's special. So special it has to have some of your attention.

Dad never told me I had a twin sister. WOOHOO!

Never underestimate an old lady.

I hate to tell ya, but that's a Model of 1911, not a 1911A1.

You're nowhere near as old as she is. Your Mom isn't as old as she is.

She's aging very gracefully, however, and is every bit as beautiful as the day she was born. Is that a new acquisition for you?

Regards,
Rabbit.

rabbit - I hate to tell ya, but I don't know what you just said. I'm sure I'll be educated on this in short order. It's not mine - it belongs to my dad. But yeah, I think it's fabulous.

If you have to have a twin sister, that's a nice one to have. So pretty that it reminds me of when the Stars comes out at night here.

That's the original Colt pistol by John Moses Browning. Guard it with your life - it's special.

Their beautiful and look mighty powerful. Go easy, girl. :)

lin - She IS pretty. And she smells all nice and flowery, too!

ambulance driver - why does "original Colt pistol" sound like music to my ears? Yeah, it seems pretty special.

lainy - Like I said, "never underestimate an old lady." I'd not be one to take that lightly.

As a European, I'm not sure I approve of this kind of thing.

On a lighter note. Cat Stevens, the British pop star who changed his name to Usaf Islam following his religious conversion. Once had a hit with the song, 'I'm Going To Get Me a Gun'.

tickers - Next time you're in Texas, let me know and I'll hook you up with a place where you can shoot some of these, and then I'm sure you'll approve!

Yeah, I always thought the Cat Stevens thing was ironic. Then again, there are lots of Muslims who are ok with killing people via other, more lethal methods.

Next time I'm in Texas! I get goose bumps every time I go to Cardiff. A trip to England has me rootling around for my passport.
I'd certainly give it a try.

Big old British steel worker like you getting goosebumps? I don't believe it.

Knowing the Serial Number and that those are the ORIGINAL grips and having seen the close up shots and how much original finish is left... I am drooling! You have requested that your Dad leave that treasure to YOU, haven't you? Seeing that she's your Spirit Twin and all.

Hollyb - I just want my dad to never die, actually. I know he'll let me use it anytime I want. So is this the original finish? Coolness!

darkmind - wow. I'm tagged? Okey dokey.

A real beauty

It is fabulous and glorious and beautiful - and if you want to find out more than you could possibly want to know from people who have forgotten more about them, go to the obsessive-compulsive ADHD-(in a nice way) collectors at the CSP 1911/1911A1 Pistol Forum or talk to Ty at CoolGunSite and check out all the pretty pictures.
For Serial Number dating go here to the Springfield Research Service page.
If she's what I think, she's from 1913.

hammer - I agree - a total stunner!

dirtcrashr - Cool! Thanks for the information. I've sent the images to a very learned person I know, and it'll be really cool to hear what he has to say on this little beauty. Glad ya' like her - she's really the Belle of the ball.

Bring it over with ya sometime.
I'll help ya pretty it up the correct way.

HollyB said...

Uh, dick... what chu talkin' bout man? That gun don't need no "pretty up".

Tam said...

Nice $1,000+ sister you've got there.

:)

phlegmfatale said...

dick - how do ya purty it up?

schnoobiekins!!! I was just thinking of you yesterday! True, don't mess with me.

Tam - Aw, shucks! I kinda like her, and I'm not even jealous that she's a sight more of an asskicker than myself.

Kevin said...

Very nice indeed...

fuzzbert_1999@yahoo.com said...

She is fabulous and I long to touch her smoothness in a loving sort of way!

That's about the vintage I was thinking, Crashr. I wasn't sure I was making out the serial number correctly, though, but it sure looks that way.

Regards,
Rabbit.

phlegmfatale said...

kevin - Thank you, kindly.

mushy - ah, caress of steel!

rabbit - yeah, the 5 almost looks like a mis-strike, but it's 57842. I don't know why there's a gap, but the Colt's symbol didn't strike squarely or deeply, either. JPG told me they were in in high-production mode at the time trying to get one of these on the thigh of every enlisted man. Coolness.

Try to find somebody with this book: Collector’s Guide to Colt .45 Service Pistols 3rd Edition by Clawson to study all the details and you'll find out some interesting things...

ARE YOU SURE THATS YOUR TWIN? THOUGHT IT MIGHT BW MINE a

FHB said...

Totally cool! Long for one myself. One day. Nothin' like it.

phlegmfatale said...

dirtcrashr - I'll check around

sis - Nope - she's not young enough to be your twin - is closer to my age, ergo: my twin.

fhb - Yup, good stuff.
