Good idea - rather than throwing the bums out (who's left?) let's reward some good behaviour for a change.

I never thought of that. That actually sounds reasonable. But how?

Brilliant, on so many levels. So, the problem is bigger than we realize. We have to change the culture of dependency and entitlement, so that the voters want another kind of congressman. Problem is, like kids at a school where a dealer has been handing out free drugs, we've become accustomed to the high. When they start taking it away, we panic, and we vote for whoever promises to secure the goods. The voters are the problem. The culture that's been created by a century of govt. spending is the problem.

In my experience, throwing the bums out simply leads to a more determined set of bums. The guy in the video is right. Finesse has ever been mightier than the bull whip.

The more I hear of Friedman post mortem, the more I am reminded of his incredible aphoristic ability to say JUST the right thing. I suspect that clarity and brevity may have been his true genius.

Were that true, then Tarp II and Obamacare would not have passed.

But they did.

The current crop of congresscritters must not have heard this part of the speech.
