Um. I'm sure as hell not clicking to find out, but...

I was just watching a video on YouTube and this poll popped up at the bottom of my screen. I usually "x" out of those things, but this very much looks like if I click on the indicated "X", it may take that as a response to the poll, which I have no intention of doing, either way. If my instincts are right, this sure is a shitty way to get a certain result on a poll. Maybe I'm wrong and my cynicism isn't justified, but I resent crap like this popping up and feeling like I don't have an option to NOT answer if I want the blasted thing off my screen. What is your opinion of this?

Love this movie!

I just watched the documentary Beauty Is Embarrassing. Absolutely loved this. One of the most creatively inspiring films I've seen in a great while, and the LBJ head is classic, as is the World's Largest George Jones Head. I'm feeling inspired to make something monstrous in papier maiche. Look out, world.

Goulash, schmoulash!

Though it may look like goulash, this is going to end up being chili. Cool front came through, and there's the most lovely breeze blowing. I was torn between making beans or chili, but chili won the draw. I'll make the beans tomorrow.

I am an Arkie, so I reserve the right to throw in beans, but as a naturalized Texan, I eschew beans in the chili. That said, I've had some very good chili with beans in. Just not mine.

A word on firepower: the Mexican beans used for frijoles are delicious, but I'd recommend against eating them before car or air travel, or being locked in any small, closed spaces in which other persons should be considered.

I have Mochi's Lord Of The Rings name:

Mochi, daughter of son of Hammerweenie.

Ossum, innit? It so fits her. She am fierce with her toofies and lipflaps and ears flouncing with every smidge of ferocity that flouncing leathers ever mustered.

WHEEEEE!

First (half) day back at work on Monday was very tiresome. I started feeling very drained at about the two hour mark. I'm glad I've got half days this week. May need that again next week.

It's 81 bloody degrees F here.

Fume.

One would like to go through 2 or 3 months of the year with no peril of needing to run the air conditioner.

Sunday, Puppy Sunday: brown babies

It's funny how alike they are, and yet how different.

Tasteless, but nigh irresistible.

I saw this on Facebook and HAD to defile the blog widdit. I hope you roar as much as I did, in spite of the horrors of tucking.

This little treat comes to us courtesy of the Chalk Hotel in Brisbane, Australia.

Meh.

Follow up with surgeon tomorrow in Dallas, so today I called the Cowgirl museum in Fort Worth to check on hours, etc. No answer. Sez I of course they are open. I detour into Fort Worth to go to the museum and check out the quilt show. Arrives at the museum district to find the Fort Worth Stock Show is under way and I was going to have to park a jillion miles away and pay $8 for that privilege.

Quilt show goes through the end of March. I'll try again later.
Grump.

On a brighter note, my teeth meet correctly, I can chew, my jaw doesn't pop or crunch when I move it, and my constant jaw pain is no more.

Yays!

You tell 'em I'm coming, and hellacious accessories are coming with me!

Today I'm appreciating my sassy holster from Michael at http://theholstersite.com

This seems a fitting feature for Gun Appreciation Day.

If you want to hear Himself giggle like a schoolgirl...

You'll want to be nearby as he watches a newscast of an uncooperative defendant being subdued by SO personnel. The sounds and their effects were as follows: squeak of shoes on courtroom floor (peals of laughter), sounds of struggle (chuckles) and the dulcet pulse of a lovingly administered taser (giggling like a schoolgirl now).
Much like the rapturous expressions of children on Christmas morning. :)

I can hold my tongue (or keyboard) no further.

Yes, here's what got my butt out of the recliner to do a post on the high-test computer, rather than drive-by postings from my cell phone:

I have succumbed to the ease of watching news sites from my cell phone and the comfort of the recliner, and I have slipped into watching Farcebook in the last month more than all my previous life combined, I think.

Someone with whom I attended high school posted this photoshopped poster on her Farcebook page. The group, which I will not name or link here-- you can see them on the photo-- posted this image of Gun Appreciation Day material with photoshopped images of the aftermath of the Sandy Hook shooting. Commenters on the page noted with incredulity that the poster was insensitive, and I think they actually believed that someone pro 2A was pleased with the events at Sandy Hook.

Notice the name of the group, yet the moderators openly identify themselves as left-leaning liberals. Their page says:

Government Website
A progressive look at the news of the day, without the biased right-wing slant and outright lies of Fox News.

Their "about" page says they want to have a civilized discussion, yet I can't help but noticing that I can't enter their discussion unless I "like" their page. Apparently, right-wing is the only slant they actually have a problem with.

I pretty much believe everyone has a blind spot to their own slant, and I am no exception. What I have a problem with is someone or a group representing themselves as objective when in fact they are working an agitprop-style agenda of their very own. If they did not intend to inflame people emotionally, why did they need to photoshop upsetting photos to stir people up? Wouldn't their well-reasoned arguments be enough? Apparently not. One must rouse sentiment when their only arguments are inane.

Also, if one penny of government money goes to this organization, then why isn't it more transparent about who/what they are, and who do I contact to suggest that in this fiscal-cliff-laden environment, that our government not spend money on such naked propaganda?

As for Gun Appreciation Day, that's a redundancy for me for the other 364 days. FWIW, I've got two of them within 6 feet of myself. Hearth, home, castle and all that.

Y'all is owed a post

I haven't done a rundown of my surgery-- complications-- because I really haven't felt much like sitting at a computer to compose the thing, but I will do, and soon. Feeling wimpy, still , but improving daily.

I did want to throw this out there, though-- while he was dinking around under the hood anyway, the surgeon un-deviated my septum. That, in and of itself, has been a glorious outcome. Two days after the surgery and with my facial swelling in full flower, I recognized that I could breathe through my nose better than ever.

This is all by way of a cautionary tale to say if you have a deviated septum, when you finally get it fixed, you'll wish you'd done it sooner. This is also prime time for Atlas to shrug and get some medical shit done while Atlas still has insurance and before .guv buggers our healthcare systems beyond any recognizability ( or viability).

That is all.

I won't do it, but...

I'd really like to skip the first day of chemistry class today. Will come back home and sleep afterward. Just woke up with wiener dog toenails in the small of my back. I said "Mochi" and she just said "what?"

I'm judging you.

Sunday, Puppy Sunday: girlpups!

Snapped this photo just now. Mochi is playing neckroll behind my head-- a favorite perch of hers-- and Praline is on the top of the back of the recliner.

Slept in the recliner last night and the swelling was much less by morning. Yesterday morning I awakened with a very painful and increased degree of swelling. Looks like I've got more nights in the recliner ahead of me, alas. At least the pups snuggle in and keep me warm, though. Bless 'em.

Demon elastics: try the whine!

Orthodontist yesterday adjusted arch wire on top and gave me elastics which I have to change 3 or 4 times a day. At least I can take them out to eat and they come in an array of fluorescent colors. They hurt like a son of a gun. Elastics in photo appear more fun than they actually are.

More ouchyness

After orthodontic appointment last week, I've been back on the painkillers. Orthodontist said he wasn't doing a big adjustment, but apparently lied, as my teef have been howling in their very sockets.

So.
Painkillers.

Surgeon visit Wednesday was good, except he wants the orthodontist to adjust again ASAP. When the surgeon took the splint out last week, my teeth fit together perfectly for the first time. Then my orthodontic adjustment, and the next morning my teeth would only fit together on the front. Angst. Very roller coaster.

Today I'm back to the orthodontist in Dallas to (presumably) get them moved back into place before they get any worse.

Again, thank goodness for pain pills.
Ugh.

35 years ago today...

The Sex Pistols played The Longhorn Ballroom in Dallas. The marquee listed Merle Haggard along with TSP. Nicely surreal.

At Panera in Dallas...

Having sausage and Gouda soufflé for brekky. Appointment with the surgeon in about an hour to see when I'm going back to work, then driving home. Rainy weather-- my favorite for being home with pups, but not my favorite for driving.

Looking forward to arriving back home. Happily, I've found an ethanol-free gas station on my way. My car will make it to Dallas and back on one tank, but if I do any running around in Dallas, I'm sure to run it close, and I prefer to keep enough juice in the tank to blast well out of DFW.

No offense, but...

I am growing weary of Facebook. It's neat in some ways, and nice to be in touch with some folks from the past, but I am tired of ball-hogging folks who feel FB is the appropriate place to throw up a new propaganda post every 3 minutes or so, no matter what their political views.

Seriously thinking of quitting it altogether, but for now, if you find I have I un-friended you, your dozens of tedious posts per hour were the reason why.

This is one happy little boy!

Waking up Saturday morning in bed with Mumsy. Chuy has been very sweet and attentive, and sometimes he just sits and stares at me as though he can't quite believe it. Me too. Love all my furballs and am happy to be home, even if its not as comfy as my folks' house. Btw, my next house WILL have a fireplace.

Another crochet project finished

This is a simple scarf I made for Mom. Used a 11.5 mm plastic hook on fine floss from Patons called Lace. It's 80% poly with 10% each of wool and cashmere. I just did a simple chain foundation row and the did treble crochet the rest of the way, finishing off with three rows of single crochet. I wanted a scarf that would be lightweight yet still give warmth if bunched up. It's long enough to wrap, twice. I'm pretty pleased with the outcome, and I hope Mom will like it. She and Dad have taken great care of me the past few weeks.

I can't handle the spicy.

Wow. I had no idea how spicy I usually am in the custom of eating. Today At Vindu with aepilot_jim, I took a modest selection food from the buffet and i could hardly eat any of it. The roof of my mouth and the incision areas were screaming from all the hot peppers. Fortunately, there is at least kheer, which is sweet, mild and requires no chewing.

Looks like I need to rebuild my tolerance for iocaine powder.
