Dear Dallas: How Do I Leave Thee?

Let me count the ways:

How about the fact that it's not bad enough that oodles of prime parking are reserved for differently-abled folk, generally sitting empty, but now, we have parking lots with the remainder of the good spots [read: MY spots-- I have ossum parking mojo] are reserved for eco-friendly/hybrid vehicle.

I shit you not.

Um, so the evil gas guzzling carbon emitting SUV have to drive farther to find parking.....

Are you sure you're in Dallas? Looks more like Austin to me...

Dixie - that's a VERY good point. Clever girl!

Joe Allen - I can't tell the difference anymore, either.

How exactly is enforcement performed on that? The handicapped spots are actual on-the-books laws in the Americans with Disabilities Act, but I'm pretty sure there's nothing official about this as yet. Sounds like a good excuse to leave the biggest gas-guzzler you can find in that spot. Preferably with a buddy along who enjoys tormenting hippies to keep it from getting keyed.

Stingray - excellent suggestion. Actually, it would be a lark to park a very poopy goat-cart there or somesuch-- what could be more organic? Lots of fun might be had...

Personally, I think reserved parking for the organic eco-types should be on the far side of the parking lot. I mean, that lot love to hike, don't they? What's the point of having $70 Teva sandals if you don't hike in them, even if it's just the long way across the parking lot!

This is why I want to start an organic store for people who aren't douchebags.

Hardly-capped and now the Eco-Freak reserved parking spots have their purpose. Since they're usually empty, the regular parking spots opposite them have just that much more room for me to park and un-park my peek-up.

(Do I sound like someone that's watched one-too-many healthy people go skipping away from these spots while the handicap tag is still swinging from their rearview? Damn skippy.)

Next it will be parking only for Obama supporters...

Our SUV is classified as an ULEV (ultra low emissions vehicle). Something tells me that although I consider ULEVs to be eco-friendly I would get the stink eye for parking there.

Park it there and tell them it's eco-friendly because buying a new hybrid to replace it would be horribly wasteful.

(And I don't see a "will be towed" notice, so unless there's one prominently displayed at the entrance, towing your vehicle would be problematic at best... especially since "eco-friendly" has no clear meaning.)

Steel, aluminum, rubber, petroleum products, glass, plastic. Even some dirt thrown in for good measure.

Yep. My pickup is quite a hybrid vehicle, made up of quite an arrangement of diverse materials.

I don't shop at Whole Foods. The "organic" or "green" foods that they supposedly get aren't; not when they need to get shipped from Peru on planes and trucks to get to the Whole Foods near you. I'd rather support my local farmer's market.

They also tout that their foods contain no MSG, but anything that's labeled "Hydrolyzed Vegetable/Soy Protein" is just another label for MonoSodium Glutamate.

Whole Foods can keep its legions of loons.
