I have succumbed...

...to the Neti Pot.

Yeah, I have mild allergies and the sinus issues are a major nuisance. I am definitely allergic to rabbits (sinus, rash) and to cats (sinus), and probably to dogs [not as bad, and not having dogs is not an option], so I just live with the congestion, mostly. Sometimes, however, it just gets to be too much. Last weekend I finally bought a Neti Pot. It's unnerving to think about running water through my sinuses, but I really needed something to clear them without feeling like I'd taken a hit of speed or a sleeping pill. So I did it. It does feel like when you get water up your nose when swimming, but without the horrid burning feeling. Breathe through your mouth and it's all okay. Strange, but oddly soothing.
I will, however, only be using this in the proscribed fashion, and not with other liquids such as the ones in the video below.

The next step is the Sinus pulse. It really does work. Instead of gravity to get it through you sinsuses, it works much akin to a water pic. I describe it as "I'm waterboarding myself."

Funny, my friend Lin describes it as self-waterboarding, too. No harm, no foul, eh? *snerk*

If you have a pulmonologist monitoring your lungs since the pneumonia, talk to him/her about your sinus situation during the next visit.

I had to start seeing a pulmonologist to maintain documentation about my asthma for a health exemption from bucket truck duty at work (a long story), but the side benefit is that he has addressed my sinus issues as well. I went from 2-3 sinus infections a year to 0.

Yeah, it's weird the first couple of times, but since I moved into this house, I have been troubled by sinuses. Going to allergist (first time) in a couple of weeks. Seems to help though!

Hell, he could have just used a douchebag and blown his sinuses clear with one shot.

I understand that if the salinity of the brew is adjusted correctly to match your body's own Ph or whatever - saltiness - it is not so awful as tap or chlorinated pool-water up the nose - which is why every time I try it in the shower I get a terrible headache.

Fatale,

Are you using regular table salt for the rinse?

I've found that to be very irritating but the pickling salt is not. I've read it is iodine and other additives in table salt that cause irritation.
