Nostalgia
Remember about 20 years ago, not long after the advent of ATM machines, here in Texas we could go to the 7-11 and buy a ticket for a Southwest Airlines flight to San Antonio for $29 or $39 each way? No identification required? The ATM would spit out your ticket voucher thingie.
Ah, simpler times.

When I was a kid, Mom worked in Reservations for TI (the better alternative to SW- take THAT, Frank Lorenzo!). When she and Dad divorced, I got her 'extra' pass card. I was a junior/senior in high school, and bored most of the time. Since I could fly essentially 'free' on standby, paying the tax on the waived fare, I'd pack a light bag and head off to ABQ and go skiing with new friends at Sandia. Almost.Every.Weekend.
Sometimes I'd just fly to DFW or Houston and hang out, drink, watch people, ride Airtrans then fly back. Sure was a lot simpler then.

Yes, simpler times I do recall. Now, you have to call someone, who transfers you to someone else who keeps the chain going, until at last you are speaking to another country and can barely understand what they are saying.
*sigh*
Holy KAY-RAP!!! Are you serious?!?!
I really can't believe that. $30-40 for one-way from Dallas to San Antonio. Hell, if prices were like that now I'd take weekend excursions to DFW just for the change of scenery!
tweaker
rabbit - you're so cool!
lainy - Yup, everyone's got to stick their fingers in your pie, too, before you can get on the plane. And your pie had better not be liquid.
speakertweaker - Yup. Ees true, Ceesco.
Wheee...
I should mention that the tax for my 'tickets' to Albuquerque (which was what the total cost of my fare entailed) was about five dollars. I made it back in free drinks each way.
That's one reason I miss the '70's. I can't remember the others.

Rabbit.
