Occasionally, I REALLY enjoy being a girl.
Sometimes, when your new retainers are killing you and you've been stressed out and you're crampy and irritable, the only thing for it is a nice lovely bath. One of these glorious fizzy bombs from Lush is the cure for what ails me. I recommend the Sex Bomb, pictured, or the butter ball, or Waving not Drowning, or read the ingredient lists to find one with a fragrance that rings your bell. Took a bath and got into nice jammies early Saturday night, then curled up on the sofa with a book under a quilt. Ah, deliverance.

I love Lush! PF, If you don't mind I want to send a general acknowledgement and thanks- I have to say - (just out of nowhere) the last 3 comments you have made at my blog have made me so appreciative of the blogging world. Across many miles I find you read my mind.
1) Clive Owen - and I have seen Croupier, thanks for mentioning, and I think a strong Clive feature is in order for my blog so we can spread the word.
2) Alec Baldwin- The Edge actually crossed my mind, when I wrote that piece.
3) Vanity Fair. For one thing, I only know one person besides me who reads it (and now you). It's declining badly, yet I hang on, and it is so nice to agree with someone's assessment.

It is wonderful to meet someone wondefully sharp as you and to think we share viewpoints makes me feel good!

jacquie - Wow! Thanks! Your comments are greatly appreciated!
Lush is marvelous. First went to one of their stores in England and came home with a sweet-smelling rucksack - good stuff! Thanks, and same back at ya, clever girl!

Clive Owen is brilliant, even if he was in that King Arthur embarrassment. That film is forgivable too because it featured Ray Stevenson, who is prominent in the HBO series Rome. Meow!

Alec Baldwin has a freakishly large cranium, which makes it even stranger that he spouts such idiotic political (non) ideas publicly. He must be like a dinosaur with a walnut-size brain and mostly solid bone up there. What a neanderthal! The Edge was brilliant because of cinematography and a cunning script by David Mamet. Alec was good in that because he played an asshole like himself, and because he is basically a parrot.

Vanity Fair used to be something I looked forward to monthly. I would read it cover-to-cover. These days, COnde Nast apparently lets Graydon Carter run roughshod over the publishing terrain on his mission to lambast George W Bush, conservatives, and anything vaguely pro-American. In a word, he has buggered the publication and now if I read 2 out of 5 features per month, it's unusual.

Likewise about the pleasure of meeting you - your blog is a fun, clever read, too, and I'm honored you come here!

Where do I sign up for this treatment?

I bought some soap from lush that I really liked. I can't remember what it was called though. Unfortunately, my tub is not big enough for a soak or a bath bomb. I'll remedy that some day in Dallas and put me in one of those big-ass soaking tubs.

You're in luck, too, o.g., because Lush is about to open a store somewhere in Dallas. Woohoo! Let Dick know you want a nice big soaky tub while he's renovating!
We have 3 bathrooms, and the first renovation we do is going to include a big yummy tub. We used to have a huge Victorian tub in our old 1910 house, and I REALLY miss it.

We have Lush here. Wonderful stuff. Haven't tried Sex Bomb though ... I will put sampling it at the top of my To Do list. :-)

Do hope the tooth problems are sorting themselves out - and that your little dog is better. And let's just say that I empathise about the work problems.

Your Saturday evening sounds completely divine, and I am a devout showerer. Waving Not Drowning is such a great name.

mary - Indeed - England is the first place I saw a Lush store - wonderful business!

Thanks, Mary, bit by bit (pun!) I'm adjusting to the retainers, but my teeth are still sore. Everyday has been easier, though, and I expect all pain will be gone within a few days. I still reserve the right to whine about it, though! And doggie is on the mend, although I need to take her to the vet tomorrow for a nose-spray for the case of kennel-cough she contracted there last week. Funny thing is that after the first night of obvious discomfort, she has been her old self again, jumping up on furniture, digging in garbage, scavenging for wee morsels of people food, so I think the coast is clear. THanks for coming by, Mary - always nice to see your blog and to see you!

barbara - I think Waving Not Drowning may be a reference to one of my favorite Roald Dahl stories - wickedly delicious. At least it pleases me to think so. LOVE his writing.

nongirlfriend - let me know what you think of them. I may try Bollywood tonight. Spicy!

The exquisite Roald Dahl story I referred to may be read here:

I bought Sex Bomb as an end of term present for my daughter's kindergarten teacher - she took it in the spirit it was intended I thought.

The worrying thing about King Arthur was that I came out of it fancying Ray Winstone more than Clive Owen - do you think it's an age thing?

phlegmfatale said...

lippy - Glad you didnt' get slapped with a sexual harrassment suit. Oh, but you're a lawyer, right? You can handle that. I still smell glorious from last night's bath. Husband came in the house and said "hmm, what's that?" Everybody wins.

Your age, or theirs? Any way you slice it, Ray Winstone is a sexy beast, and his interactions with his kids/woman were totally endearing. It IS a bad film, but I call it a guilty pleasure. Mostly. Keira Knightly operating a bow/arrow mere hours after having out-of-joint fingers re-set was just SO beyond lame.

You do realize that, in about a month, Lush is opening in Northpark...

Ahem.

phlegmfatale said...

I did know they were coming to Dallas, but didn't know where/when. Thanks for the heads-up. I'll have another reason besides Sephora and neiman-marcus to go to northpark. Woohoo!

Thanks for the Dahl link! It's a good day for one of his stories.

I am just getting ready to have a nice, relaxing night just like you ... only mine will involve Extreme House Makeover, Desperate Housewives & Gray's - yes I am sad!

Dick said...

Yep. I can see I'm going to have to stock up on the sex bomb for the incredibly hot one.

phlegmfatale said...

Damn skippy, dick. She needs a big lovely bathtub, too. Just think, after a hard day driving over boulders, she'll want a nice ladylike bath. Since you're in high renovation mode, anyhoo...

phlegmfatale said...

barbara - I hope you like it - it's a classic - I love it.

heather b - I'm getting ready to have another one - woohoo - 2 nights in a row. What luxury! The only Sunday night shows I "do" are "Rome" and "Deadwood" on HBO, which are not at all girly. Testosterone fests, in fact. I'll take me some of that too, thank you very much!

Ooooohhh! More neat stuff to buy!

(BTW: I'm tracking the expenditures your blog is causing me. I'll have Mr. Magoo forward them to accounting. ;) )

phlegmfatale said...

tam - you'll love it. Mr. Magoo would LOVE yet another thing to admonish me for, I'm sure. I'll admit to being a retail enabler, as long as you don't regret the purchases I recommend! Believe it or not, I loathe malls, and I never go into one, or pretty much any store, unless I'm on a mission to get one particular thing.

I experienced Lush for the first time when I was in NYC last Fall -- a blogger took me there. Fortunately, I haven't found one in Seattle or it would become my beauty crack.
