Cleaning today I listened to some cds I haven't heard in a while. One was by Ulali, a group of Native American women who sing in the most gorgeous harmonies. Here is a clip from one of my favorite films (get the soundtrack) Smoke Signals near the end. This is a 2:04 clip, and in the last 30 seconds or so, you can hear a bit of my favorite song by Ulali, which is one of my all-time favorite songs. Gorgeous stuff. Watch the movie, if you get a chance.

Frybread Power!
YESSSSSSSSS!
my mother and I go to a Powwow every June and always make sure to get some frybread - with sugar and cinnamon! I loved Smoke Signals and we have the soundtrack here at the library, I'm going to check it out.
breda - I've only gone to a gathering like that a couple times in the Dallas area, but I loved it. It's exciting to see all the traditional finery of fancy dancing and the innovative updates on the traditional look. And frybread is wonderful stuff.
My favorite thing in Smoke Signals is the two madcap chicks who have the car that will only go in reverse. Hilarious!
My first exposure to frybread was in the 4 corners area. I worked for a pipeline company that had some gathering systems on the Navajo and Ute reservations. And have you had a Navajo taco? Just regular taco filling on frybread. Some kinda good.
We just saw Smoke Signals again last week. Great movie. And I say we forgive our fathers in their age. And memories, hopefully some good, are what is left.
Yes, I've had a Navajo taco. My favorite frybread experience was not far from 4 corners - a roadside stand on a Rez where I had frybread with lamb. Really simple, but incredibly hardy and delicious.
I agree, brilliant film. Adam Beach is so great as the young man sorting out the family conflicts so he can move on with his life, and the storyteller guy who plays Thomas is a wonderful, insightful actor. Great film.
ANd yes, forgiveness, asap. Then move on.
