I gotta get a Cadillac

Not really, but...

Once a little over 20 years ago I went to Arkansas with Dad to visit my grandparents. I popped a Stray Cats cd [er, it was an album ;)] into the tape deck and we rolled on down the line. Dad liked it. I thought that was so cool that he could enjoy music I loved. Road trips with Dad have always been the best even when I was a little kid. I can drive around for days on vacations, just looking at things, and there's something stirring and satisfying about hitting the road just to see what's out there. I'm glad my family never flew anywhere when I was a kid. When I finally started flying for vacations on trips to Europe in my 20s, I always felt like flying was cheating all the sights and landscapes I was flying over.

Here's to taking time to stop and smell the roadside attractions.

My Dad like the Stray Cats too...

I think it was because he grew up with the Big Band music and thier music was styled so much like the 40's swing/big band stuff...

I find myself still in my bluer moods going back and listening to Glenn Miller & Tommy Dorsey...

I think I was born in the wrong era, but then some AC/DC comes on the radio... ;)

But I agree about missing out on the sights of the Country as you fly over... I've driven across the US 5 times now, and it never ceases to amaze me the things you see driving down the Interstate.

I am a confirmed "driver" - after several cross country car trips and then a "perfect storm" of life events, I bought a motorhome and spent 7 months "cruising" the U.S., always intending to sell the thing when I decided where to land. (I can work on the road...)

After coming back to MT, I just couldn't give her up and though I love MT, I need to get out on the road. I don't do tourist things or destinations, just love watching, listening to local radio as I roll through, coffee shops for breakfast and eavesdropping on local stuff.

Anyway, I'm a road trip girl!

Must have been a really magic time, if you got a tape deck to play a CD.

I'm very fortunate that my work is transportable - I work from a home office, whereever it happens to be. Headed out hopefully this week for 4-6 weeks.

Gypsy or wanderlust or just a need for a change of scenery...

Enjoying your blog very much! Came over from Buck's Exile in Portales.

Saw them live, got a dollar bill signed by the whole band. One of them drew a pompadour on Washington. :P I wonder what it's worth?
