I think I first enrolled at UNT (was then NTSU) in 1987 then abruptly stopped, and then Tarrant County Jr College (now Tarrant County College) in 1989for a couple of semesters, and then went back to UNT in 1996 with summers getting core classes out of the way at another area community college. Then last spring I got a math credit out of the way at yet another community college. I have 95 hours accumulated. I remember feeling vaguely oldish at the time I went back to school in 1996. I wonder what it will feel like at orientation later today, when probably most of the people my age are faculty or parents bringing their young'uns to college?
Odd.
Anyway. Today is orientation and whatnot. Here goes nothing.

You're not old, I've seen 80+ year old men and women back in school... :-)
You'll do great! You can giggle at all the kids whining about having to get out of bed.
You will be surprised at how many "nontraditional" (I hate that term) students there are. I felt very old when I went to orientation a couple of years ago, but do not regret my decision to go back to school. It has been so rewarding and I am glad that I went back. I know you will do great:)

I will echo what Mrs. Tole said: there will be more re-entry students than you expected. And after a while in school, it's kinda cute how the young'uns often come to us "old ladies" for advice or simply encouragement. I predict that you will *love* being back in school!

My now-ex (thankyougod) MIL began law school in her 50's, her mother got her Psych degree in her 60's.
Go for it!
I've seen so many students our age, Phlegmmy...don't sweat it! You'll do great. :)
Think of how upset the professors and instructors will be when they get a student that may ask questions that go against the prevailing wisdom and correctness.
I have loved going back to classes after twenty years in the Army, two tours in Europe, one tour in Korea, and being a lifelong Anglican.
Have fun, be sassy.
