That Nina Hagen thing I posted last week with cellos was (I believe) Apocalyptica, a Finnish cello ensemble that re-works metal classics into cello pieces. Just found out they are playing House Of Blues in Dallas next Monday night.

$15.

Hmmm.

Walk the XX blocks to HOB.

Hmmm.

$10 cab ride home...

$25 to see live cellos playing lots of badassery of Metallica & their ilk?

I'm SO there.

A particularly elegant re-imagining of Metallica's Nothing Else Matters by Apocalyptica

*slurp*

UPDATE:

I got an upcoming events email which apparently wasn't for Dallas only. Crap. If you're in Vegas on Monday, go see Apocalyptica, and I'll be wanting a full accounting of the event. Oh well.

They utterly kick ASS! Yes, definitely go, then describe the evening. Wonder if they ever come to Vegas? Must research...

No doubt, that's cool, but having played with symphonies a good bit of my life, I can't help but giggle at the synchronized head-banging going on during the bridge and chorus...

christina - aw, smeg.

squeaky - yeah, it IS corny. I wonder about all that hair getting in the way of the bowing. But it does sound good.

You want corny? Go to the website, to the videos page, and watch "Bittersweet". Gorgeous bass voice in that one, etc, etc, but oh my god, when it gets toward the end, don't have any beverages in your mouth.

Come on now, be nice! Synchronized head-banging is just part of metal! Jeez, you should see some death metal bands. They do it, and get their hair all swing in a circle; the stage looks like a B-52 taking off;)

I accidentally discovered this band in the mid-90's while looking for something else in the metal section. When I saw the album title, Apocolyptica Plays Metallica on Four Cellos, it was immediately purchased. I had no idea they were touring here!

Thanks for the head's up. I'm now going to figure out where I can see them. I'm also queuing them up in iTunes right now. Thanks again!

Wanted to come up and see the Racontours there last week or so, but it was on a wednesday or thursday night. Pisses me off that I have classes late on week nights and have to miss good gigs.
