Having a rough day last week, I went to the Starbucks drive-thru for some of their delicious black iced tea. The line was really long, so it was going to take a while. I picked up my next Terry Pratchett book from the passenger side seat, Maskerade, and began to read, almost distractedly. Unexpectedly, I found myself howling, laughing out loud, nearly to the point of tears. You know a writer is brilliant when they thrill you from the very first paragraph:

The wind howled. The storm crackled on the mountains. Lightning prodded the crags like an old man trying to get an elusive blackberry pip out of his false teeth.

That right there is pure-dee funny.

I find Pratchett a great antidote to the worlds ills on the occasion I set time aside to read one of his works.Given his present condition I hope he has a good few more disworld adventures in him.

I had a similar struggle with an errant blackberry pip the other day myself. And to make it worse, my teeth are still my own.

lainy - Yeah, better I should be laughing uproariously than to be picking my nose!

thud - yeah, He's definitely a cure for what ails ME. I agree, I hope he keeps going for a long time.

hollyb - *L* I spose that's true!

barbara - fiendish things-- pips are.
