Please be careful re: Fiat. I used to own a Fiat Sport Spider convertable...it's steel was poorly manufactured and rusted out within 3 years and it had an aluminum head which twisted and shrunk with the outside temperature...but it was a BLAST to own and hugged curves like leather on a cherry...smoooooth.

Not unless you have a mechanic on call...

Le Conteur - I suppose you are referring to those temperamental Italian horses. My ex-husband had an Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce. It was fun fun fun to drive, but it always bottomed out pulling into the driveway. But it was a sexy beast.

Old NFO - well, actually, my dad is an Ace Wrench, so, yeah, I have a mechanic on call, but he taught me to be wise in my choice of vehicle. In this case, this would be like when I post a picture of $800 shoes that make me slobber and I say I want. I can want, but I will not be having, because I don't want to give up, well, keeping a roof over my head to have those $800 shoes. Having a Fiat 500, it would have to be a second car, and not the one and only I had to rely upon on a daily basis. Still, it's so damned cute!

I owned a Fiat Panda when I was stationed in Germany back in the mid 90's. I loved that car because it was as mechanically simple as a can opener and would fit in any parking place I could find. The only gripe I had with it was that it was nearly impossible to get it started when it was below freezing. We had to roll-start it down many a hill before we gave up and bought a Mercedes.

The new 500's are very cool, although now that I've got a MINI I don't think I'd give it up for anything.
