I don't know why, but something about the Russian language and composition shows bass and basso profundo to best effect. This young man is tremendously talented.
You might try the Telarc recording of the Robert Shaw Chorale doing Rachmaninov's "All-Night Service" better known as the Vespers. The purists do not care for Shaw's treatment of some of the less-strictly liturgical pieces, but it really captures Russian Orthodox music. Just the "Nunc Dimmitis" alone is worth the price of admission. LittleRed1
