...but his whole left leg is swollen. He's been on fluids into the other leg since last night, and you can see he was not happy for me to leave him there. I wasn't either, but they most likely will let me take him home around 5 today.
My baby's going to make it.

Sweet lady, even if you can't get all the rattlers out of the area, take comfort in the fact that pups are pretty resilient.
We had a cocker spaniel that was bitten several times throughout her long life, always killed the snake, and died old and happy.

His eyes are heart breaking.
Both of you need to spend the weekend being extremely lazy and selfish with naps.
I've heard of a few anti-snake recommendations:
Moth balls scattered around the yard and under the house.
Sulphur done the same way.
Charged fence
Pigs (They will eat a snake.)
Cats
Polished stone eggs.(They can't digest the eggs after they swallow)
Rat traps.
Ferrets
Mongooses
King Snakes
Diesel sprayed on the fence row
I guess they all work in certain applications, but none are as guaranteed as a garden shovel.
Give Chuy an extra big hug for me. He deserves it.

Glad he's on the mend! How many rattles? I've herd tell that little rattlers are worse than big ones because they just let loose with all they got.
I think you should get a mongoose. I always wanted a mongoose.
Might be time to start feeding a couple of big-assed wander-up yard cats.
