I never really listened to the lyrics of
Rum and Coca Cola, but isn't there something bizarrely incongrous about the über-wholesome Andrews Sisters singing about booze and prostitution? Maybe that's why I never noticed before that song was about, well,
booze and prostitution... Well, booze, maybe.
My late mother, an Army nurse in the Pacific in WWII, told me the Andrews sisters claimed they didn't understand the lyrics at first.
