A glass artist pulling a glass twisted stringer cane

This is pretty entertaining to watch (at least to me). It's great to watch other peoples' hands working glass on YouTube - it's so much cooler to watch on video!

Cool! But the hands are not protected? Wow...

  2. That's quite amazing! Like a dance (which I could never do).

  4. meg - no, protective covering on the hands would just impede manual dexterity. Oh, and you don't wear rings or bracelets or they'd heat up like fiery ingots. I've heard tell of a burned acrylic fingernail, too. Yipes.

barbara - Yeah, it IS amazing, isn't it? However, that part where they speed up the video for the last 15 seconds or so sorta freaks me out.

tickersoid - I love it when you chill out.

    Wow, that's pretty cool.

I don't have the patience or the steadyness to do that.

I saw artisans doing stuff like this at Disney. It's fascinating and they let you buy it right off the work table.

The creative process always fascinates me. Remember seeing glass blowers in Vinace in about 1970. Blew me away. I liked how he sped up at the end, fast forwarding through the tedious bit. Question is, how do you make a bead? You have to twist it around a metal rod?
